Blue apatite belongs to the apatite family. It is a very little-known fine stone and has no legend linked to it. Renowned for being a stone of learning, it is also an excellent source of inspiration. With different appearances and colors, apatite was widely confused with several other minerals. Ultimately, its chemical composition was only established towards the end of the 18th century. Thus, in 1786, the German geologist Abraham Gottlob Werner, one of the creators of mineralogy, named this stone apatite. This name is inspired by the Greek “apatan” meaning to deceive.

In Greek mythology, Apate is one of the evils that emerges from Pandora's box. This is actually the God of trickery, fraud and deception. Small reminder: Pandora's box is a box offered by Zeus to Pandora, on the condition that she does not open it. This box contained all the evils of humanity, namely, disease, war, old age, famine, misery, madness, vice, etc. But Pandora could not resist and opened it, which released all these evils on earth.

Thus, this apatite is a very appreciated gem because of these shades of blue: very pure turquoise blue, more or less dark blue. Gem quality apatite is an ideal stone for original jewelry. In fact, it can be cut into a faceted stone or a cabochon.

This stone is a source of phosphorus, commonly used in the chemical industry and can even be found in the composition of artificial fertilizers. It is found in many magmatic, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. Moreover, during the Apollo space program, NASA astronauts brought back lunar rocks in which traces of apatite were found.

It should be noted that apatite is a calcium phosphate. Thus, it is the only mineral present in the body of man and animals. It is found at 65% in our nails, our teeth and in enamel, in a crystalline state. The age of this mineral can be established thanks to the tiny amount of uranium it contains.

In lithotherapy, blue apatite is commonly nicknamed the stone of the hypersensitive. It allows the regulation of emotions and facilitates letting go.
