Why purify a stone?
Lithotherapy, a practice focused on reciprocity
Unlike living things, stones are inanimate objects. Despite everything, they contain powerful energy, accumulated over geological eras. This energy constitutes the very basis of lithotherapy. It is generously transmitted to you by each mineral which asks, in exchange, to be pampered and maintained in order to preserve its benefits. It is for this reason that purifying and recharging the stones is necessary.
Purify a stone to get a good start
It is essential to purify a stone before its very first use, whatever its origin: whether it is a mineral ordered online, purchased in a physical store, offered by a friend or found in nature, no stone does not escape the need to be purified. For what ? Quite simply because you don't know who touched it and what energies were transmitted to it. You are now its carrier and the sole recipient of its beneficial energy. Purifying the stone allows you to begin your relationship with it on a healthy basis. After this first in-depth regeneration, you will only have to carry out maintenance purifications.
Purification of protective stones: a saving step
Certain lithotherapy stones have protective virtues, that is to say they shelter you against harmful energies that may be emitted by beings, objects or places. This is the case for tiger's eye, amazonite, black obsidian, celestial eye obsidian, black tourmaline and of course labradorite. Faced with harmful waves and negative energies, this type of very powerful stone acts sometimes like a shield, sometimes like a sponge. Black tourmaline, for example, absorbs electromagnetic waves emitted into its environment by electronic devices. Purifying such stones is particularly necessary for their proper energetic balance (as well as yours). The purification of protective stones relieves them of all stored energies and makes them capable of accompanying you again.
How to purify a stone?
Find the stone purification method that's right for you
There are a myriad of processes aimed at purifying stones. It's up to you to choose the one you prefer, depending on the time you have and the needs of your minerals. You can choose several techniques, then vary the pleasures according to your desires. The main thing is that the purification of your stones is not experienced as a chore but, on the contrary, as a moment of communion with the mineral. When you purify a stone, take advantage of this ritual to convey your gratitude to it and to strengthen the spiritual bond that unites you to it.
Choose the Right Stone Purification Frequency
Regarding the frequency of purification of your stones, know that it varies depending on three parameters:
- their size (the smaller a stone, the faster it becomes saturated with energy),
- their faculties (an absorbent protective stone must be purified more often than a soothing stone like rose quartz),
- the use made of it.
For this last point, trust your common sense as well as your intuition. When a stone pendant follows you everywhere, including travel and work, its need for purification can be daily. On the contrary, the purification of a stone that is rarely used (for example a geode placed on a piece of furniture) can be carried out weekly, even monthly or quarterly.
Water, your ally to purify stones
Water purification is a simple, quick and effective method. Simply rinse your stone under tap water or immerse it for several hours in a bowl filled with water. Preferably use water of excellent quality, for example demineralized or purified using a carbon filter. Don't forget to take into account the physicochemical particularities of the stones: some cannot withstand water and risk discoloring or becoming opaque if you wet them. Among them, let us mention angelite, azurite, native copper, malachite, selenite and even sulfur.
Purification of stones with salt
Himalayan pink salt is a very useful substance for purifying stones. It can be used in two ways:
- by immersion, that is to say by burying the stone in coarse salt for one hour
- in a salt water bath (a pinch of salt for 200 ml of water), without ever exceeding two hours.
If you choose the second technique to purify your stones, finish the operation by rinsing with cold water. Warning: there are stones (like malachite) which are damaged on contact with salt.
Incense, a powerful stone purifier
Unlike water and salt to purify stones, fumigation is the only purification method suitable for all minerals, even the most fragile. Choose a natural incense like palo santo or white sage , place it in a bronze burner then light it with a lighter. When the incense begins to burn, place the stone above or near the smoke. Let the incense burn to the end.
How to recharge a stone?
Regeneration through natural light
Just like purifying stones, recharging them can take different forms. In all cases, recharging is only effective after purification. The most common method of recharging consists of using natural light, that is to say:
- the rising sun (allow one or two hours of exposure for a stone the size of your fist),
- or full moon (in this case, a whole night is necessary).
Crystals, tools for recharging stones
When amethyst or rock crystal clump together, they form carpets of crystals with sparkling reflections: druses. These rock formations (also called geodes ) have great energy power . To recharge a stone from your collection, you can place it on an amethyst druse, right next to it or on a small bed of stones (like rock crystal) for around ten hours.
Recharging a stone while meditating is possible
If you are a fan of meditation, do not hesitate to use this spiritual practice to recharge your stones. Simply choose a stone before your daily session, place it in front of you and direct your attention to it as you meditate. Once your conscience is pacified and your breathing is under control, transmit your energy to your stone in order to recharge it. You can also infuse it with an intention or emotion. In this case, the stone will serve as an anchor for you after the end of your session, and will regularly bring you back to a state of full consciousness.
