Onyx is a stone belonging to the chalcedony family, a variety of quartz. It is often used in jewelry , decoration , and sometimes in spiritual or esoteric contexts.

🔹 Characteristics of onyx

• Color : The most well-known is black , but there are also onyxes of various colors (white, brown, green). Black onyx is often artificially tinted.

• Structure : It is an opaque stone, with a fine texture, sometimes with parallel white or colored bands (similar to agate).

• Hardness : About 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, making it relatively tough.

Onyx forms in volcanic rocks or in silica cavities . It is found in several countries:

• Jewelry : rings, pendants, bracelets, pearls.

• Ancient Egypt : Used in amulets.

• Ancient Rome : engraved to make cameos.

• Today: symbol of inner strength , self-control , and sometimes mourning (due to its black color).
