Collection: Moldavite

The name moldavite does not refer to Moldova but to the Czech locality of Týn nad Vltavou (formerly known by its German name Moldautein), located in southern Bohemia, where the moldavite gemstone is particularly abundant.

Moldavite is a glassy material that can form during a meteorite impact, such as, in the case of Czech moldavite, the Ries impact in the Langhian period 14.4 million years ago.
The connection with the Ries was proven by experiments on the age of these tektites and on projectiles subjected to high acceleration.
The impact melts the silicates which become glassy-looking molten tektites, produced by the high temperature.
Geologists and crystallographers believe that these tektites form in milliseconds, when the top layer of the Earth's surface, molten, is ejected at very high speed in billions of fragments that solidify into natural glasses of olive green to dark green color. Moldavite is mined and sold as an ornamental stone, cut and polished, sometimes under the name chrysolite or pseudo-chrysolite4,5.

List of Stones & Minerals

Moldavite is a green mineral formed from a meteorite impact approximately 15 million years ago. It belongs to the group of tektites, a word which comes from the Greek "tektos", which means "to melt". Tektites formed during a meteorite impact when Earth sediments melted and were propelled into the air, where, when they cooled, they became glass. Tektites have been found on every continent except Antarctica and South America.
When tektite has an olive green color, it is valued moldavite, which is considered special for its low water content, difficult fusibility and chemical composition.

Most Moldavites were found in the Vltava Valley in southern Bohemia (Czech Republic). To a lesser extent, they have also been found in the Moravian region, and recently, a few in Austria.

Main deposits: Czech Republic, Germany, Moldova and Austria.

The Benefits: Moldavite is considered a high vibrational stone that enhances spiritual growth, perception, wisdom and connection with Mother Earth. Placing the eyebrows to meditate helps improve vision and interdimensional communication. It promotes the opening of the chakras, the cleaning of blockages and the alignment of energy.
