The name prasiolite comes from the Greek prason, meaning leek, and lithos meaning stone. We therefore literally translate prasiolite as leek-colored stone in reference to its very particular green color.
Be careful not to confuse prasiolite with a variety of prase. This error is regularly found in various texts published on the internet. Prasiolite is a very rare mineral of magmatic formation. It is a sodium and calcium aluminosilicate.
Basically, prasiolite is a purplish, sometimes gray amethyst, which when heated to 650°C becomes green and transparent. This is the case of the deposit coming from the Montezuma mine, state of Bahia in Brazil.
Naturally green prasiolites can be found in nature. This phenomenon occurs when the amethyst deposit is near a volcano. This is the case of a deposit in California where the amethysts turned green due to a rhyolitic lava flow.
It is common for amethysts heated by human hands to become rather yellow and similar to citrine. Furthermore, if they are heated too much, they become colorless.
Thus, green prasiolite is commonly found in the mainly synthetic trade. It is often confused with synthetic green quartz. Only the analysis of impurities dissociates them. It is also not prase quartz, which is a quartz with green-colored inclusions (amphibole, chlorite, etc.).
Prasiolite is part of the large quartz family. It is a monocrystalline variety, always very pale to pale green in color, but never dark green. It is extremely rare in its natural state. The vast majority of prasiolites offered commercially are in reality artificially heated amethysts or quartz irradiated with gamma rays.
In lithotherapy, prasiolite is a stone of self-confidence. It allows you to assert your convictions and ideas while being extremely respectful. It gives the strength to impose oneself on others thanks to the awareness of one's own value and self-confidence.
It develops self-esteem and a lot of confidence. She fights against the complexes caused by failures, by too much self-criticism. She learns to love herself so that she can love others. It also engenders openness towards others. It provokes compassion, empathy and understanding.
This stone brings optimism, joy and vitality. It combats feelings of sadness, anguish and anxiety. It releases solar energy in women and strengthens the virility of men.
It allows you to overcome life's difficulties by strengthening charisma, mentality, and will. It gives you the motivation to get up and start again. It encourages the achievement of life goals.
Prasiolite is known to strengthen the bonds of a couple. It maintains physical desire and maintains dialogue. Good communication is essential in couple relationships. It is said to be a stone of wealth that brings abundance in life.
