Ruby on fuschite is a magnificent stone of fuschite, a variety of green mica with inclusions of non-gem ruby (red corundum). The green color of fuschite is caused by the presence of chromium which replaces part of the aluminum.
For information, fuschite is often the matrix which contains corundums (ruby, garnet). It is found in the form of flakes included in aventurine, which gives it a beautiful pearly green color.
The etymology of this name ruby on fuschite comes from the Latin rubeus meaning red and fuschite was named in honor of Johan Von Fuchs (1774-1856), famous German mineralogist.
So, ruby belongs to the hematite group, of the corundum family and fuschite belongs to the micas group, of the silicate family.
Ruby has a red, red-magenta color, can be in shades of purple to pink, with a glassy appearance. It sometimes has an asterism. For the record, asterism is an optical phenomenon in the shape of a 4 or 6-pointed star, observed on certain minerals.
Fuchsite has a beautiful green tint. It has a glassy, pearly to silky appearance.
Ruby has a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale. On the other hand, fuschite has a hardness of 2.5 on this same scale. For comparison, diamond has the highest hardness, 10.
