  • Around 4000 years before Christ, in Asia Minor (more precisely in Turkey today) blue chalcedony was used. This stone is mainly found near hot springs, sedimentary areas or areas with high seismic activity. Its name was given to it because it came from the ancient Greek city of Chalcedon (today Kadiköy in Turkey).
The term chalcedony refers to all species of microcrystalline and cryptocrystalline quartz (assemblage of very small crystals). It also relates to gemstone and a family of minerals. Blue chalcedony has a color that ranges from white to blue to gray. It has various synonyms such as chalcedony, chalcedonite or merlinite.
4000 years BC, the Babylonians used chalcedony in the manufacture of their seals, their tools and their weapons. Indeed, this stone turned out to be particularly hard and once sharpened, very sharp.
Later, the Assyrians made cylinder seals from chalcedony. These are small scrolls with signs and symbols carved into relief for stamping designs onto the wax. The blue stone did not attach to the wax and allowed relatively fine and precise marking.
At the time of Ancient Rome, the Romans granted the chalcedony stone the power to express oneself in public in a fluid and convincing manner. Indeed, it seems that the great orator and statesman Cicero wore a blue chalcedony as a pendant during each of his public interventions. The Romans also used this magnificent blue stone to make offerings to their gods and jewelry for their wives (especially brooches or rings).
During ancient Egypt, the Egyptians made many scarabs from blue chalcedony. Indeed, the commemorative scarab is a piece of jewelry made for a pharaoh, on which is engraved a text relating to a significant event of the reign. In addition, they also made jewelry and other objects as offerings. They placed these objects on the bodies of the deceased to help them pass the trial of the Judgment of the Soul.
Blue chalcedony is cited and described numerous times in divine writings. We find its trace in the Bible, in the Torah and in the Koran. In the Middle Ages, this blue stone was used as a medicinal stone which provided relief to angry and overly sensitive people. Indeed, at that time, anger was already considered to be part of behavioral disorders.
Then over the centuries, blue chalcedony was used for decorative purposes, especially during the Renaissance era. This stone has been identified in several colors, black, red and green.
Nowadays, the term chalcedony, in jewelry, designates certain stones of a single color, translucent, bluish or gray. It is used in the creation of magnificent jewelry (especially rings, bracelets or pendants). It also has many virtues in lithotherapy.
The main deposits are found in Namibia, Malawi, Brazil and Türkiye.

In lithotherapy, blue chalcedony is a calming stone. It represents gentleness, confers calm and serenity. It is attributed with the power to overcome sorrows and sadness. It channels people who are overworked, aggressive and emotionally unstable.
This stone improves relationships with those around you and causes openness towards others. Thus, it facilitates good understanding and good listening to others. It promotes generosity and kindness.
It has the power to chase away negative feelings and dark thoughts while leaving room for affection, tolerance and kindness. It opens its wearer to happiness and love. Chalcedony is the symbol of maternal love.
It is therefore recommended for people who are anxious, nervous and unsure of themselves. It strengthens self-confidence, memory and fights effectively against stress and shyness. It reduces anxiety and even stage fright.
This stone is perfect for people suffering from shyness because it strengthens their ability to express themselves. It allows you to make speeches in public and provide quality eloquence. This stone is ideal for all professions in which speaking is fundamental. It even helps to convince your interlocutor.
