Pietersite is actually an aggregate of several minerals, such as hawk's eye, tiger's eye, bronzite and crocidolite. As a reminder, an aggregate is a heterogeneous assembly of substances or elements which adhere firmly to each other.

This stone belongs to the large family of fibrous quartz. It has dark and cold colors which contrast with streaked and shimmering reflections caused by the presence of crocidolite (blue asbestos characterized by straight fibers).

The presence of all these disordered inclusions within the stone makes each specimen totally unique. The inclusions can have different colors, ranging from brown to yellow, or even gray-blue in the case of oxidation.

The origin of pietersite dates from the 20th century. It was discovered in 1962 in Namibia, southwest Africa. A few years later, in 1993 to be precise, another pietersite deposit was discovered in the Chinese province called Henan.

The deposits in Namibia and China are currently the only two known production sites in the world. However, the deposit located in Namibia is starting to become depleted and its yield is decreasing over the years. This decrease in production makes Namibian pietersite increasingly valuable.

The etymology of the name pietersite comes from the name of the person who discovered it: Sidney Pieters, Australian geologist. It should be noted that many stones were named in homage to those who discovered them. This is the case for morganite, kunzite, with the suffix -ite and many others.

The price of pietersite continues to increase due to the rarity of these deposits, which are also quickly depleting. However, it is still accessible in comparison to precious stones such as diamond, emerald or ruby.

It should be noted that certain cabochons of several carats can reach the price of €200 to €300. These are in principle AAA quality cabochons from Namibia. These are likely to see their prices soar in the coming years.

Pietersite can also be used in the making of artisanal jewelry for €20 to €50 each or in jewelry with much higher prices of up to €200 for a simple ring.

The commercialization of this stone only began during the 20th century. This stone is mainly of interest to jewelers, collectors and fans of lithotherapy. It has a high hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. In comparison, diamond has a hardness of 10 on this same scale.

Its main deposits are therefore in China, Namibia, South Africa, etc.

Pietersite is an aggregate of minerals and therefore has powerful virtues and energies. It is a stone of balance between the perception of real needs and aspirations.

This stone allows you to free yourself from trauma and emotional wounds caused by contact with perverse narcissistic or dominant people.

It develops a feeling of well-being and helps you move forward in life. It teaches the importance of being and not of appearing.

It is a positive, motivating and stimulating stone. It keeps away harmful influences, dark thoughts and anxiety. It helps improve self-confidence and self-esteem. At the same time, it releases susceptibility and inferiority complexes.

Pietersite promotes imagination, creativity, and critical thinking. It helps to have a calm dialogue with a fluid and harmonious voice. Thus, it encourages you to become more eloquent. It is also known to increase listening skills.

This stone allows its wearer to be able to face the most complex difficulties and problems. It brings strength and determination to those who wish to achieve their goals.

It helps to maintain control of the situation during changes or new beginnings. It removes the stress of the unknown, restores confidence and fights against uncertainty and indecision.
