An epidote is a mineral species from the group of silicates subgroup of sorosilicates, with the formula Ca2(Fe,Al)Al2(SiO4)(Si2O7)O(OH) with traces of magnesium and manganese (Mg and Mn). The name Epidote comes from the Greek epidosis, which means growth. This mineral can give prismatic crystals up to 35 cm long. It is quite common and yields gems that can be cut.
