Chrysoprase owes its name to the Greek names “chrysos” meaning “gold” because of its shine and “praso” meaning “leek” because of its beautiful green color. This color is determined by the presence of nickel. Thus, chrysoprase offers a range of green colors, ranging from apple green to deep green.

The more intense the green, the higher the presence of nickel. This stone does not tolerate heat and its color may be altered following exposure to a strong heat source. When repairing jewelry, it is important not to heat the stone.
