Also called Chrysoberyl because of its yellow color and its intense shine, this stone is commonly called "cat's eye" because of a phenomenon of light reflection creating a vertical light line similar to the pupil of a feline.

Cat's eye is divided into three categories: the first includes translucent stones without optical effect; the second, often called Cymophane, is rich in iron and shines in a contrasting way; the third, Alexandrite, changes color depending on the light, going from red to green. All of these categories are prized for their luminous hues and shimmering appearance, but it is rare to find specimens over two carats or with color changes or other optical phenomena.
