The stones receive their name based on their color, the place where they were discovered, the legends relating to them or even the name of the person who discovered them.

Lepidolite comes from the Greek name “lepis” meaning “scale” in reference to the structure of the stone. This stone was first called “lilahite” by the Austrian natural geologist Nicolaus Von Neuhaus (1723 – 1798) because of its lilac color.

Then, it was described in 1792 by the German chemist Martin Heinrich Klaproth (1743 - 1817), who gave it its definitive name, lepidolite. It is a rare stone which owes its friability due to the light fragments of lithium. It is also made of silicon, aluminum and manganese. It has this flaky appearance due to the presence of lithium. Manganese gives it its beautiful lilac color.

However, lepidolite is a mineral that can be colorless or white. But it can be found in multiple colors, more rarely, yellow, green or pale red or more commonly, pink, purple or purple. It appears in the form of tabular, prismatic or pseudo-hexagonal crystals.

This mineral only forms in geochemical environments where high concentrations of lithium are found. Lepidolite is therefore a rare mineral, because it requires a very particular geochemical situation. The lithium ion is the smallest and is one of the last ions to form during the crystallization of magma at the subsurface.

The presence of highly concentrated lithium allows the formation of minerals such as spodumene, petalite, tourmaline and lepidolite. The latter can sometimes be confused with muscovite. However, the colors differentiate them, because muscovite does not have the beautiful colors of lepidolite.

Lithium is a very popular chemical element, particularly in electrochemistry, for the manufacture of rechargeable batteries or other mobile phone accessories. Which implies that lepidolite is commonly used.

Lepidolite is a mineral, most often purplish-pink, close to hydrothermal veins where its crystallization takes place. It has a hardness of 3 on the Mohs scale, which makes it a very soft mineral. For reference, diamond has the highest hardness, 10 on the Mohs scale. Lepidolite belongs to the large family of micas.

There are no particular legends or myths about this stone with its powerful virtues, particularly in lithotherapy.

The main deposits are located in Brazil, Madagascar, India, the United States and Zimbabwe.

Lepidolite is renowned for the well-being it provides. It is a stone of peace and serenity. It effectively fights against negative thoughts. It is a real shield against sadness and anxiety. It keeps dark thoughts away and provides quality sleep.

This purple mineral stimulates concentration, imagination and creation. It sharpens analytical skills and helps make the right decisions when in doubt. It allows you to decide with lucidity and without regret. It provides the ability to achieve set goals.

Lepidolite contains lithium. This trace element stabilizes people with overly agitated thoughts. This stone brings inner peace and self-confidence. It removes blockages linked to childhood trauma. It is a liberating stone.

This stone stabilizes mood and is suitable for people who tend to change their minds often. Its soothing side helps fight against certain behavioral disorders, notably agoraphobia. Holding this stone in your hands or carrying it on your person generates attitudes of self-confidence.

Like many purple-colored minerals, lepidolite develops spirituality and promotes meditation. It encourages introspection and allows you to connect with your inner self.
