he Earth is filled with extremely fascinating, sometimes little-known minerals such as kyanite. We find this mineral also called kyanite or kyanite. It is known for its surprising properties.

Kyanite comes from metamorphic rocks, such as mica schist or gneiss. These are rocks that have changed under the effect of heat (at low temperature) and under high pressure. When the pressure increases, kyanite turns into sillimanite and when the temperature drops, it becomes andalusite.

This astonishing phenomenon is called the polymorphic transition. In chemistry and mineralogy, polymorphism is the property of a chemical material to crystallize in different structures depending on temperature and pressure.

Kyanite belongs to the silicate group, it is an aluminum silicate. It has the shape of a tetrahedron, which is part of the pyramid family, composed of 4 triangular faces, 6 edges and 4 vertices.

Kyanite is composed of silica, magnesium, calcium, chromium, iron, etc. Depending on the nature of its components, the color of this mineral differs. This gem can be blue, green, gray, white, yellow, pink, black and sometimes colorless. Blue colored kyanite is the most common. In its green version, kyanite or kyanite remains relatively rare. This beautiful green color is due to the presence of trivalent iron.

Its shine is glassy, sometimes even pearly. In addition, when placed under ultraviolet rays, this mineral becomes fluorescent and luminescent. Kyanite, regardless of its color, has a variable hardness, 7.5 on the Mohs scale lengthwise and 4.5 widthwise. This stone is therefore quite fragile.

Kyanite does not have any particular legends. It has often been confused with other stones, such as sapphire. In 1789, Abraham Gottlob Werner (1750 - 1817), mineralogist and geologist, identified it and named it kyanite, from the Greek “kuanos” meaning deep blue.

Then in 1801, the French mineralogist René-Just Haüy (1743 - 1822) called it kyanite because of the Greek “di” meaning two and “destenos” which translates as force. This is explained by the fact that this stone has variable electrical properties depending on its direction.

Later, this stone was found under the names of laminated beryl, sapare or blue talc.

Kyanite does not need any special transformation to have a beautiful color. It is often mounted on a brooch, pendant or earrings. On the other hand, jewelers avoid making rings or bracelets due to the fragility of kyanite. However, the most beautiful specimens are often cut into cabochons or rectangles and are intended for collectors.

The main deposits are in India, Brazil, Canada, USA, etc.

Green kyanite is a stone of letting go. It helps to express anxieties often linked to the past and repressed. It has the reputation of being a mineral that facilitates self-knowledge. Thus, it gives the strength to overcome certain psychological problems.

This gentle stone is excellent for people suffering from great shyness or who are very self-conscious. It soothes anxieties. It is recommended for angry or violent people, because it calms them. Wearing a green kyanite is very appropriate for teenagers in the midst of rebellion. Furthermore, it reassures young girls in doubt.

Green kyanite is an anti-resignation and anti-fatalism stone. It is a stone of hope that allows you to move forward and achieve your goals. Green kyanite improves self-knowledge, sometimes leading to a change in behavior. Thus, it helps to draw on its resources and learns self-acceptance.

At the same time, it is a stone of communication. It helps its wearer find the right words and know how to express themselves in public. It promotes quality exchanges with others.

An anti-stress stone, it provides serenity in order to resolve everyday problems. It develops intuition and calms fears. It encourages optimism and contributes to having quality and restorative sleep both physically and mentally.
