Colors and patterns may vary from one stone to another;

Like rock crystal, aventurine is a variety of microcrystalline quartz, having different colors due to its micaceous inclusions. Mica looks like grains of sand in different shades. Green aventurine is the best known, it has fuchsite inclusions. In contrast, red aventurine has hematite inclusions, yellow aventurine has pyrite inclusions, blue aventurine has dumortierite inclusions.

It is a natural mineral stone, which is most often translucent. However, a large amount of minerals can make it opaque. This stone was formed in igneous rocks, especially in pegmatites (magnificent rocks with impressive crystals) or in hydrothermal veins.

The history of this stone tells us that this mineral owes its name to aventurine glass and not the opposite. Indeed, in the 17th century, the glassmakers of Venice used processes in the glass factory which caused fires. They then decided to emigrate to the island of Murano, which also allowed them to jealously guard the secrets of making their glass. One day, a glassmaker accidentally spilled copper filings into molten glass. The result was astonishing and created the aventurine or Goldstone. This glass with glittery reflections became the specialty of Murano glassmakers. Quickly, the resemblance was noticed with the natural stone which was given the name aventurine, from the Italian “a ventura”, meaning by chance.

At the end of the 17th century, Madame de Maintenon, governess of Louis XIV's children before marrying him, owned numerous aventurine figurines and jewelry.

It was later discovered that aventurine had been known for thousands of years. The Tibetans used it for the eyes of their statues and attributed to it powers against vision problems. The Celts saw this stone as the symbol of knowledge of the spirit. Then for the Chinese, it was an imperial stone. Furthermore, aventurine tools have been found in Ethiopia dating from prehistoric times. But, it is strange that this stone does not appear in different mythologies like amethyst, for example.

Around 1830, Russian craftsmen carved a basin of impressive dimensions in red aventurine from a peak in the Urals. This masterful work was created over several years, it measures 2.46 m wide and 1.46 m high. It is exhibited in Saint Petersburg in the sublime Winter Palace.

Furthermore, we can admire an impressive achievement in Paris, under the dome of the Invalides. Indeed, the tomb of Napoleon I, which took 20 years to manufacture, is made of red aventurine.

Nowadays, aventurine is mainly used in the making of jewelry, especially cameos. It is a stone that remains very affordable due to its abundance. Red aventurine is also used to make ornamental objects, stones for landscaping purposes, for the manufacture of aquariums or monuments.

The main deposits are located in Brazil, India, China, the United States, Germany and even France.

Often less known than green aventurine, red aventurine nevertheless has many qualities in lithotherapy.

This stone is connected to the Earth and transmits strength, vitality and warmth into our body. The particular red of this stone restores energy and inspiration. It provides motivation to enable projects to be undertaken or brought to fruition. It reconnects its wearer to their inner resources during moments of fatigue.

Its glittery appearance due to hematite inclusions is associated with the radiance of vitality. It is a stone that allows us to reactivate in times of depression.

Thus, red aventurine brings success and prosperity in the professional environment, promoting creativity and imagination.

This stone provides determination and perseverance in the most complicated moments of life. It provides strength and confidence, while remaining pragmatic.

It restores a sense of humor, shows mistakes, and overcomes them in order to move on with confidence.

Red Aventurine calls for excitement and action. It provokes enthusiasm, it is the color of passion, energy, life. It is also the color of fire and blood. It restores stability on an emotional and mental level. It is above all an anti-stress stone.
