Amphiboles are actually a family of minerals, iron, calcium or magnesium silicates.

There are three types of amphiboles widely distributed in nature: ferromagnesic amphiboles, calcic amphiboles, and sodium amphiboles. These amphiboles are normally dark in color, but they can vary from white to black. These are actually heavy minerals. They are found in the constitution of magmatic and metamorphic rocks.

As a reminder, igneous rocks form when magma cools and solidifies. Metamorphic rocks are formed during the transformation of sedimentary or magmatic rocks into a solid state.

Amphiboles were identified by René Just Haüy in 1797. Abbot René Just Haüy was a French mineralogist born in 1743 and died in 1822. He was co-founder with JB Romé de l'Isle of geometric crystallography and gemmology. The etymology of the word amphibole dates back to ancient Greek, “amphibolos” translating as “ambiguous”.

Amphiboles appear in the form of circular or fibrous aggregates. They have a hardness of 6 on the Mohs scale. For comparison, diamond has a hardness of 10 on this same scale (the highest). Amphiboles are characterized by the presence of water in their constitution.

Amphibolite, which contains amphiboles and plagioclase, was discovered and exploited in the Southern Alps from the beginning of the Neolithic to the 5th millennium BC. For three millennia, it was used to make long ax blades, which were found throughout Western Europe, from the Pyrenees to Scotland, Ireland and Denmark.

There are no legends or myths associated with this stone, which is often black.

The main deposits of amphibole are located in Brazil, Madagascar, etc.

Amphibole is the stone of the moment. It stimulates its wearer to appreciate the present moment and move forward in life, without looking back, while being oriented towards the future. It makes you want to make plans and reconcile yourself with the energy of life. It is a stone that allows you to find motivation.

This stone, often black in color, encourages its wearer to accept themselves as they are, to live well in their body and in their mind. He finds serenity and manages to escape from the visceral fear of suffering, particularly during romantic relationships. He can finally be aware of his power of seduction and use it in a harmonious way. He learns to preserve himself in his relationships with others.

The amphibole engenders a competitive spirit without crushing those around it. In fact, she turns every wound in life into a personal lesson. Its wearer can then draw conclusions that will allow him to put things into perspective. He also learns to escape situations in life that drag him down.

Furthermore, it is an excellent stone for meditation and introspection. It promotes the healing of wounds buried deep within the mind. It helps to overcome trauma after having identified and explained it.
