Gray agate is an agate that is characterized by its numerous patterns and bands in different colors. This natural stone generally has a very light gray, sometimes close to white to a darker gray. Its appearance can vary: it can be translucent, opaque, ribboned or plain.
Agate has had its name since three or four centuries BC. It was attributed to him by the Greek philosopher Theophrastus (371 BC / 288 BC). Indeed, he discovered it in the Akhates river in southern Italy, and even in Sicily. Today, the river is called the Dirillo and it is still quite possible to find, all along this river, several types of agate, in multiple colors, yellow, red, blue, pink, etc.
But gray agate is not only found in this river. Its formation takes place in volcanic rocks, whether effusive, extrusive or volcanic. Mostly, it is located in cavities in basalt or rhyolite, but it can also form in sedimentary rocks.
Gray agate is mainly made up of chalcedony and quartz, and mostly silica. The presence of iron and manganese oxides gives it its ribbonlike appearance and its white bands. It has a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale. For comparison, diamond has a hardness of 10 on this same scale, the highest hardness.
All the characteristics of gray agate cited above are accurate for all agates. However, gray agate stands out slightly, because it is made up of various pieces of shells buried at the bottom of the sea. Be careful not to mix it with fossil agate, however.
In reality, the name gray agate covers several stones such as gray Botswana agate, dendritic agate, gray crazy lace agate. Traces of these agates were found during archaeological excavations. Since Antiquity, gray agate has already been used in the manufacture of various jewelry, amulets or ornamental objects.
Gray agate, as well as the majority of agates, are renowned for their protective power, particularly against insect bites, snake bites and certain diseases.
The main deposits are located in Madagascar, Botswana and India.
In lithotherapy, gray agate is recommended for low morale, demotivation and discouragement. It provides real psychological support and pushes its wearer to continue to move forward and overcome the difficulties encountered.
It helps to have a sharp mind in order to push thinking. It thus helps to better perceive the advantages and disadvantages of certain decisions. It generates a good analysis of problems to better resolve them.
Gray agate offers beautiful lucidity and chases away illusions. It is an excellent stone for meditation. It promotes introspection, reconnection with one's inner self. It frees its wearer from negative feelings such as anger, resentment and bitterness.
This magnificent stone provides a feeling of security to its wearer. It allows him to open up to the outside world without fear. He will then be able to show empathy and compassion towards the different people around him.
It helps to better manage emotional pressure while adopting a calm and intelligent attitude. It develops patience, concentration and clarity of mind. It gives self-confidence.
Accentuating careful thought and prudence, this magnificent gem will accompany its wearer throughout their personal and professional life. This way, he will easily differentiate between trusted people and others.
