Today, we have no trace of fire agate during antiquity, either among the Greeks or the Romans. In the Middle Ages, fire agate was used in alchemy. Indeed, its reflections suggested that it contained the essence of fire. We have very little evidence of this stone before its complete disappearance.

The etymology of its name comes from a river in Sicily called Akhates where the Greeks and Romans found these stones in abundance. In 2,500 years until 1,500 BC, they traded it and called it “agate”.
